How to register a marriage or a birth
REGISTERING A MARRIAGE
We do not perform marriage registrations at the High Commission.
Local certificates issued by the local registration authorities are normally acceptable for most purposes. Customary marriages are not recognised.
REGISTERING THE BIRTH OF A BRITISH CITIZEN
Consular birth registration is the provision of a UK style birth certificate. Once a birth is registered with us, a permanent record will be held at the General Register Office (GRO) where certified copies can be obtained. Our target is to issue a birth certificate within 5 working days of receipt of a correctly completed application, supporting documentation, and fee.
Documentary Evidence to be produced:

- Original documents MUST be produced and any foreign language document should have a certified translation
- a completed Birth Registration Form
- applicant's full civil birth certificate
- parents' marriage certificate
- parents' British passports and full (unabridged) birth certificates - these can be obtained from The General Registrar at www.gro.gov.uk.
